Carpooling through European identity

The doors slam shut. The engine is running. BlaBla. – HELLA LUX have hitchhiked their way across Europe, searching for rides in every direction. In this rolling microcosm, surrounded by metal and the accidental circle of fellow travelers, the distance between the personal, life’s big questions, and unsolvable conflicts is short. The car becomes a place of mutual trust, a stage for a drama of confinement and isolation, a theater of Europe’s chance encounters – a heterotopia that never truly arrives.

MULTILINGUAL: The performance AUTO is in German, with English, Hungarian and Bulgarian parts subtitled in German.

Together with performer Petya Alabozova, director Milena Wichert travelled through eleven countries, from Germany to Greece, collecting documentary and scenic material. The result is AUTO, which asks questions about European identity in 2016 and takes us on a tour in a performance car.
