Boots

The language of mourning - a performative approach

ZACK! PENG! POW! In BOOTS, a fusion of comic, theater, and film takes center stage, offering a visual feast. Live drawings, electronic music, projections, and choreography come together to create a sensory whirlwind. At its core, the performance explores a universal experience—one that everyone will face at some point in life: GRIEF. What lies behind the dusty motifs of traditional condolence cards? Should we paint over them, tear them apart, or turn them into paper planes? What brings comfort? How would pain look if we could draw it? And what happens to the emptiness left behind when something is gone?

Based on the performance film wearing heavy boots, which won the Hessischer Theaterpreis in 2021, and the performance comic heavy boots, which translated the film’s themes into a two-dimensional medium, HELLA LUX continues its artistic research — merging theater, comic, and film into a single form. With ZACK! PENG! POW!, a performance unfolds that breaks through canvases, paper, and stage boundaries, finally making space for grief.

Info

The performance BOOTS forms the third part of the grief trilogy, alongside the award-winning performance film wearing heavy boots and the comic heavy boots. As part of this trilogy, HELLA LUX continues its transmedia translation practice, exploring different artistic mediums and transforming one production into the next. A film became a comic, and a comic evolved into a performance.
